Gold and Silver Eagle Coins in the US

August 18, 2010 – Gold and silver Eagles have become the most popular bullion coin products within the United States, and since their inception through an act of Congress in 1985 they have lined the portfolios of security-oriented investors around the world.

Although a “monster box” of 500 silver American Eagles is easy to come by, acquiring the golden Eagle, however, can sometimes prove much more difficult. Over the last few years, the US Mint and their planchet suppliers (a planchet is the round gold blank from which coins are struck) have had an on-again-off-again relationship, resulting in delays of gold Eagle processing and distribution.

Or at least they were. Because of the government’s “shortage” of planchets, gold Eagle proofs (the only collectible gold coin you can buy with funds from your IRA) weren’t produced last year, and no one knows when (or if) they will be produced again. If you are interested in buying or selling gold and silver Eagles or if you have questions about these markets, send us an email or call our toll-free number today.
